| You can help by writing letters to
local and state officials expressing your concerns about wood
smoke's hazardous toxins, requesting they revisit current
legislation that is far too weak ,"under-regulating" wood burning
devices with laws that are thus far, subjective and therefore cannot
be enforced. If you meet with officials, groups or individuals keep
a smile on your face, but arm yourself with knowledge and facts to
counter any argument they may make in an attempt to protect the
rights of wood burners. Write to President Obama and Congress
and tell them to promote health, not big business.
At this point, burners are given more
rights than non-burners. Some states permit burning nine out of
twelve months. Lake Placid sets a ghastly example by permitting
burning on May and September nights when "they feel everyone will
have their windows closed, so the smoke shouldn't bother them."
What kind of reasoning is this? Of course residents will have their
windows closed! Otherwise, they'd choke! Involve health care professionals in your community whom you feel may be willing to join our cause. Ask them to help raise awareness and government action by writing and publishing articles in local newspapers and journals, regarding the negative impact of wood smoke upon our communities. Due to the severe health issues involved, they may be more than happy to join us. Keep us posted with your progress. Just as with cigarette smoke, some day wood smoke will be strictly controlled and hopefully banned entirely, granting us our natural born right to breathe clean air, and to enjoy our property, smoke-free. We won't always be forced to live by their calendar. Someday we'll be able to open our windows on lovely spring and fall days and nights, and not be kept as shut-ins, barricaded with closed windows in our own homes, when in reality, we have every right to enjoy the health and beauty of nature, at any time of day or night, any time of the year, without the fear of wood smoke. Please read and sign our petition to stop wood smoke. Public contact Information we have gathered. If you can add to our list, please email stopwoodsmoke@woodsmokefreeny.com and we'll add your contacts. Together we stand as one voice waiting to be heard. John D.
